December 27 & 28, 2009 - Ubud, Bali, Indonesia
Our time in Ubud is spent wandering the maze of streets, enjoying our quiet bungalow which overlooks a rice paddy, eating pork and marveling at the main shopping strip. For all of its touristy flash and commercialism, Ubud is actually a pretty cool place to hang out.
Our last night in Bali – and our last night in Indonesia for that matter – we go and watch a performance of “the Kecak Dance”, which is a traditional dance known for its “monkey chant”.
No instruments are used – all of the music is made by mouth a la Bobby McFerrin or Cadence. The hour long dance was put on by app. 100 people from a neighbouring village and the performance includes a prince & a princess, monkey gods, a dragon and fire-blowers.
It was incredible to see and the perfect way to end our Indonesian adventure.
