January 1, 2010 - Bangkok to Prachuap Khiri Khan, Thailand
It’s been a while since we’ve had some beach time, so on New Year’s Day, we hop on a bus to begin our journey down south. Beaches here we come!
Since the trip to Krabi and Hat Rai Leh is over 12 hours by bus and long-tail boat, we decide to break up the journey and go just under halfway today.
On our arrival to the southern bus terminal in Bangkok, we are treated like VIPs. A gentleman greets us at our taxi, asks where we are going, summons the security guard and passes us off to him. Then the security guard proceeds to lead us through the station to the ticket booth and makes sure we have our ticket and know where to catch the bus before heading back to his post. This is a great example of the friendly Thai hospitality everyone talks about.
We arrive in Prachuap Khiri Khan – or PKK for short – late in the afternoon, drop our stuff off at a guesthouse and begin exploring.
PKK is a cute little town nestled in a bay on the Gulf of Thailand. It’s more popular with local tourists than foreigners so we are greeted with “hallo” by almost every Thai child we see.
And since PKK s right on the ocean, the seafood is extremely fresh. So what else can we have for New Year’s dinner but a seafood feast!
