Day 181 – England to Egypt

April 4, 2010 – London, England to Cairo, Egypt

After our whirlwind experience leaving Thailand, Eric and I don’t want to take any chances on screwing up our London departure, so we’re up bright and early to make our way to Heathrow Airport.

We have no problems riding “the Tube” and check-in with plenty of time to spare… such a novel idea.

The flight is uneventful – everyone keeps their lunch down, thankfully – and we arrive in Cairo at about 9:00pm. We get our visas and go through customs without a fuss, so now all we have to do is catch the airport shuttle to our hotel, which is, as it turns out, a lot easier said, than done.

For the next few nights, we’ll be staying at the Fairmont Heliopolis – it’s where the tour we’re taking with my parents begins.

Now in theory, there’s supposed to be someone manning the Fairmont Hotel booth at the airport… but in reality, there’s no one manning the Fairmont Hotel booth at the airport.

Eventually, security gets involved – apparently there’s nothing more threatening than two weary backpackers, pacing around looking for a bus – and we’re able to track down “the Fairmont guy”.

The bus comes a few minutes later and we’re delivered to paradise…
